We Close Our Eyes
A year after their critically acclaimed debut 'The FDCCDEP', JD & Co let rip with another barnstorming release 'Burn This City Down', another extended player with a much less original title. However, that doesn't detract from the content, three songs that certainly deliver...there's some great points and one low one.
'Burn This City Down' is accurately described as 'anthemic' on the band's PR....who am I to disagree with that? It rocks, it rolls and kicks ass fine style. Already a great live act, this is a band that would grace any opening slot for ANY band, I get the feeling they know it too! The guitars are mixed to perfection and the overall production displays a confidence and comfort with their sound, something a lot of bands struggle with.
The second track 'Stupid Music Played By Idiots' is yet another kick-ass rocker that would get any live audience going. Originally recorded by JD's old punk rock band PANIC, the song has been reworked with a new set of lyrics and backing track. Great Stuff indeed!
Final track on this release is a cover of Go West's 'We Close Our Eyes' and it's a brave statement to make really....one that I think works technically, but sounds like an afterthought. I'm pretty sure the guys will be cussing me for saying that, but it's all about opinions in this game, and mine is as stated.
Don't get me wrong, it's cool to do something from off left-field, but it just sounds weaker than the other tracks....ahh, anyway, enough of my ramblings, go check 'em out for yourselves....
