'Passion Of The 10th Street Blues NYC '77' is no doubt one of the most descriptive album titles I've ever seen...no guessing what this is gonna be like then? The opening track sets the scene for this 9-song trip down memory lane. It's a classic sound, delivered in quite some style, reminiscent of an old Stones/Stooges album [ when they were both vibrant and relevant! ] but has the 4am Downtown NYC flavour all over it.
The guitar tips a rather huge nod in the direction of Mr.Thunders, as does the vocal attack, there's even a 'Thunder' track that carries on this theme. The fact that Joe and Co were actually living right amongst the craziness that was New York in the 70's, validates this whole album. You could argue that this has been overplayed a thousand times since his demise and of course, you'd be right, however, this seems right, well, more right than some of the others attempts.
It's not that I don't like this album, 'cos I do, I just think the better songs are the one's that don't reference dead rock n rollers. NY Junk have a great overall sound and if you like songs about New York in the 70's, this won't disappoint ya!
The easiest thing on the planet is to review someone's work and kiss-ass whilst doing so....I take a more realistic approach to my reviews, some ya like, some ya don't....This band rocks, but I'd just love to hear something that isn't stuck in a time-warp!
