Is this a 'Punk' album? Is this a 'Heavy Metal' album? Is this a 'Goth' album? Who knows? Who cares? I'm not one for any of those labels anyway, never have been and by the sounds of it, neither are Obsessive Compulsive.

This album opens up with '$$' a nicely worked out bit of screaming rock, which kinda sets the scene nicely. 'Man Vs Machine' ups the ante and let's the listener know that these guys van sure write a decent song. This isn't the run of the mill, blast it out as loud as ya like rock n roll, its pretty well thought out and extremely well played, if not just a little long in parts.

'The Decay Of Hope' would be a great title track to a horror movie, building the tension throughout its three minutes, again, too long and indulgent for me to enjoy, but as an album track it works well.

There's a dark side to this band, showcased in the epic 'Cocktail Of Toxins' which seems to go on forever and ever.....deep and hurting lyrics, shouted out with passion. the thing about this album that I don't dig, is it tries to be too many things and doesn't succeed at any. The guitar parts are too technical and unnecessary in places, and it sounds like it's played on 11, again, not a particular favourite of mine. That said, the precision is there, and there's no doubting the ability, it's just not floating the boat!

I saw Obsessive Compulsive play recently and was quite impressed by the energy on display, but even though they don't do it for me, there were plenty of people there that would disagree, and good luck to 'em! It's not that I don't like the band, its nothing personal, I don't like everything I receive for review.

It would be pointless and meaningless if I simply sucked the ass of every band that sends their efforts in for review, and I know from experience that I'd prefer honesty from a reviewer. there are far too many in this game that pander and kiss ass....I don't!
